The Doctor,
Peri and Erimem find themselves in 15th century Romania
and in grave danger. They are initially chased by Prince
Radu, nearly poisoned and then they learn that the Prince
has plans for the two girls which none of them are happy
about. But worse is to come when The Doctor and Peri
become separated from Erimem - who finds herself in the
illustrious company of Prince Vlad III. But since the
murder of his father Prince Vlad III’s has gone
by another name - Dracula.
The Doctor
and Peri soon manage to track down the whereabouts of
Erimem but then The Doctor is stabbed by a stranger in
a market place. Fearing the worse Peri is delighted when
he manages to make a full recovery – thanks to
his alien body. But during the period he is unconscious
Erimem decides it is time to part company with her fellow
travelling companions and without, The Doctor’s
help, Peri is unable to stop her.
After his
recovery The Doctor, to Peri’s horror, discovers
that an unknown woman – supposedly Dracula’s
wife – will die in Dracula’s castle. The
Doctor and Peri are convinced that this is in fact Erimem
and so it is a race against time to discover if the unknown
woman and Erimem are one and the same and, if so, prevent
her untimely death and to also convince Erimem to continue
her travels in the TARDIS.

Erimem
is completely unaware of the danger she is in by being
in the presence of Prince Vlad III. But what are the
true circumstances behind Dracula? Why is Prince Vlad
III besieged in his castle with an army outside awaiting
the order to attack from Prince Vlad III’s brother
Prince Radu? When Peri tries to rescue Erimem could she
find herself becoming Dracula’s first victim instead
of the close friend she is trying to save?
Will The
Doctor be able to alter history or at least manipulate
it, so that he and his two travelling companions can
leave this time period safely, or will history follow
its set course regardless of The Doctor’s attempts
to alter it?

On the Inside Cover:
James Perefoy
“I
have a ten-year old son. The idea of Doctor Who versus
Dracula seemed like a really good one to him – I
told him about it. He would have killed me if I’d
said no! My experience of Doctor Who stretches way,
way back to Patrick Troughton. And Jon Pertwee was
obviously a big one for me because I was a young
teenager when [he] was doing it.”
Director: Barnaby Edwards
”I
have always enjoyed what are referred to as ‘pure
historicals’ – stories set sometime
in the Earth’s pas, without aliens or monsters.
Brining real history to life presents its own challenges,
of course, which is why casting is so important.
The dialogue in Son of the Dragon is eloquent and
involved, full of facts, allusions and poetic turns
of phrase – and that demands a certain kind
of actor. James, Douglas and the rest of the talented
cast brought immense power, wit and believability
to their roles. Their theatrical savvy and native
intelligence is the blood that races through Vlad’s
veins. After being dead for five centuries, Dracula
rises triumphantly from the grave.”

Who's Who?
The Fifth Doctor
First television appearance: "Castrovalva"
First chronological Big Finish audio appearance: "Land
of the Dead"
He
has been exploring the universe for hundreds
of years. He fights injustice. He defeats evil.
He helps people. In his fifth incarnation, The Doctor is more restrained in temper, calmer in
attitude and visually younger in appearance than
he used to be. He looks for the best in people
and tries never to deliberately offend or cause
trouble. Some may underestimate him because of
his comparatively youthful nature. But those
enemies who do, do so at their own risk...
Peri Brown
First television appearance: "Planet
of Fire"
First chronological Big Finish audio appearance: "Red
Dawn"
Perpugilliam
Brown has been travelling with The Doctor for
a while now. Their relationship can be fractious
- but is generally lighthearted and friendly.
A keen botanist, resourceful and compassionate,
Peri also has an edgy side; a wry sense of humour
that can infuriate her travelling companion.
Erimem
First Big Finish audio appearance: "The
Eye of the Scorpion"
Upon
the death of her father, Erimemushinseperem -
Erimem for short - became Pharaoh of Ancient
Egypt. During an attempt on her life she met
The Doctor and Peri, who were instrumental in
saving her. Before her coronation, the officials
decided upon a different, male, Pharaoh - a decision
that did not completely disappoint Erimem, who
then joined The Doctor and Peri on their travels.
