The Doctor

The Doctor, so as to contemplate the mystery surrounding Clara Oswald, has been staying at a Cumbrian monastery in the year 1207. There the monastery's monks bring him news that the "Bells of Saint John" are ringing. On hearing this news The Doctor departs leaving the monastery's monks to discuss the painting that is in The Doctor’s room of the Woman Twice Dead, and her last message, ‘RUN, YOU CLEVER BOY, AND REMEMBER". The Abbot also observes that if The Doctor is mad, the woman in the picture is his madness.
With the sound of a ring bell The Doctor returns to his TARDIS, that is located in a crypt, and discovers the external phone is ringing, which it should not do. He answers it and is shocked to find that on the other end of the line is a young woman from 2013 in Ealing, London, who believes she has been put through to a helpline, that has been recommended to her as being the ‘best one in the universe’. The Doctor recognises her as Clara when she uses the phrase ‘run you clever boy and remember’, which she previously uttered in "Asylum of the Daleks" and "The Snowmen", as a mnemonic for her Wi-Fi password.
While trying to help her connect her laptop to the internet The Doctor is unaware that Clara has in fact connected her laptop to a different Wi-Fi network labelled by alien-like symbols. The connection alerts a technician working in a secret base for a person called Miss Kizlet, who instructs him to send a mobile server to her address - a humanoid robot that can take the appearance of anyone taken from a person's memories. These are nicknamed ‘Spoonheads’ by the technicians because of a spoon-like antenna dish on the back of their head that they use to upload their victims to Miss Kizlet's cloud storage.

By the time The Doctor arrives to the house, Clara is phoning from, the humanoid robotic base-station has gained access to her house and has begun downloading Clara's consciousness. The Doctor though is able, by using his sonic screwdriver, to interrupt and reverse the download. This causes an alarm to go off in the secret base and the technicians there are powerless to stop the download of Clara from being reversed. When the reversal is complete the humanoid robotic base-station transmits a pillar of light that returns to Clara. The Doctor checks her pulse satisfied that she is just unconscious. The Doctor’s interference though has been noted by Miss Kizlet and after informing her mysterious client, she orders her agents to track down The Doctor and Clara – despite The Doctor leaving a message stating that Clara is under his protection.
On recovering, Clara reveals that she is a friend of the family who live in the house, and she looks after the children – just like a governess as the previous version of Clara that The Doctor had met before. The Doctor then explains to her that someone is using the Wi-Fi networks to download and use human consciousnesses all over London for some unknown purpose; he also proves this by demonstrating that Clara has gained new-found computer skills due to her encounter with Miss Kizlet's cloud storage.

When Miss Kizlet's agents discover the location of the pair, she orders the Wi-Fi network to be activated, causing the crew of a passenger jet to fall asleep, all the lights in the nearby houses to come on and the lights of the rest of London to all go out plunging the capital into darkness. Realising that the plane is descending towards them, on a collision course, The Doctor drags Clara into the TARDIS which then transports them both to the aircraft. There The Doctor is able stop the plane from crashing by pulling the plane out of its dive. He then blocks the Wi-Fi, so reviving the crew and passengers, who had been rendered unconscious via the Wi-Fi, before departing back to the TARDIS with Clara.
The Doctor and Clara then travel forward to the next morning, and travel on a motorbike to a roof-top café adjacent to St Paul's Cathedral. The Doctor is unable to find the base of operations for the Wi-Fi network from Clara's computer, but she offers to use her new skills to do so. Leaving Clara to her laptop The Doctor enters the café to get coffee when Miss Kizlet, using the various patrons in the café, taunts The Doctor and shows off her abilities to control the London population.
Meanwhile, Clara manages to hack the webcams used by Miss Kizlet’s technicians and, using social network sites, discovers that they are working in an office inside The Shard. But before The Doctor returns to her, Clara is once again downloaded, this time by a humanoid robotic base-station impersonating The Doctor.

On discovering this, and not wishing to lose Clara again, The Doctor rides to The Shard on his motorbike, and uses its anti-gravity feature to scale the outside of the skyscraper, crashing into Miss Kizlet's office. There she calmly explains she is doing the work of her client who needs the human consciousness for its purposes and so refuses to release Clara from the stored consciousnesses. She tells The Doctor that it is only possible if everyone else in the cloud is released. Despite her refusal The Doctor states that he intends to motivate her. As his head spins around, Miss Kizlet realises too late that this is not The Doctor (who is still in the café), and that he has sent her the humanoid robotic base-station in his guise after hacking it. The humanoid robotic base-station then downloads Miss Kizlet into the array of other consciousnesses.
Experiencing the fear that her prior victims felt Miss Kizlet, via a monitor screen, orders her subordinates to restore everyone from the cloud. They initially do not obey her, but The Doctor has the humanoid robotic base-station hack into her second-in-command to make him susceptible to her instructions. This results in the release of all those who have been downloaded including Clara who is once again restored to normal.
As UNIT forces rush in to secure the facility, Miss Kizlet explains to her client, The Great Intelligence, that she has failed him. The Great Intelligence, realising that he has been defeated by The Doctor, orders Miss Kizlet to restore the members of the organisation to their ‘factory settings’ so causing her and all the technicians to be reverted to a mental state before they became part of The Great Intelligence's plan. In Miss Kizlet’s case, this means a return to her childhood.
Back in the TARDIS The Doctor introduces himself properly to Clara and offers to take her with him to any place in space or time. She rebuffs his request but tells him to come back the next day as she may change her mind. He gladly agrees, and as she leaves, he decides the time has come to unravel the mystery behind the mysterious Clara ‘Oswin’ Oswald.
