Inside The Doctor uses the fake Mickey's head to locate a controlling signal. The Doctor explains to Rose that the fake Mickey was an Auton, controlled by the Nestene Consciousness, and that if he cannot stop it by using a vial of "anti-plastic" liquid, it will destroy all humans on Earth. He also explains to her that he is an alien.
The Nestene Consciousness has invaded Earth again. With help from Rose, The Doctor tracks down its lair beneath the London Eye. The Doctor tries to use diplomacy to persuade the Nestene Consciousness to leave Earth. But all he succeeds in doing is to make it angry when he identifies himself as a Time Lord. It seems the Nestene Consciousness blames The Doctor for the destruction of its home planet during ‘the time war’.
The Nestene Consciousness then activates all the Autons at the Queens Arcade, where several shoppers are shot dead, including Clive. Overpowered by the Autons, The Doctor has to be rescued by Rose. She is able to drop the 'anti-plastic' into the vat where the Nestene Consciousness resides, killing it. This act also stops all the Autons who are rampaging through the shopping arcade and nearby streets.
