The BBC has announced that actor John Simm will be returning to his role of The Master in the 2009 Doctor Who Christmas Specials. This two-part adventure will see David Tennant’s final appearance as the Tenth Doctor.

John Simm was last seen as The Master in the 2007 stories "Utopia" and "The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords" where at the end he was shot by his wife, Lucy Saxon, before apparently dying in The Doctor’s arms. But even though his body was cremated, it seems that The Master has found another way to cheat death...

Also announced is the name of the second episode of this two-part adventure – which will see David Tennant’s final appearance as the Tenth Doctor. It is called "The End of Time". The title of the first episode has yet to be revealed. It has though been confirmed that although the first episode will run to 60 minutes, as per most previous Doctor Who specials, "The End of Time" will be a bumper-length episode, running to a massive 75 minutes - making it the longest single episode of Doctor Who since the 85-minute TV Movie starring Paul McGann back in 1996.

Joining David Tennant will be Bernard Cribbins as his companion, Wilfred Mott. Other cast members also confirmed are Catherine Tate as Donna Noble, Jacqueline King as Sylvia Noble, June Whitfield as Minnie Hooper, Alexandra Moen as Lucy Saxon, and former James Bond star Timothy Dalton as ‘The Narrator’.
