(Elliot Thorpe)
At the end of 2005, subscribers to the Big Finish Productions Doctor Who Audio range will received a free Sixth Doctor/Peri single-disc adventure called “Cryptobiosis” written by new writer Elliot Thorpe. This story has been directed by Gary Russell and was recorded on the 19th August 2005.

'This came from the open-submissions pile.' says producer Gary Russell, 'And was one of those that leapt out as a story we just had to make'.

This single episode, single disc story, stars Colin Baker, as the Sixth Doctor, with Nicola Bryant as his companion Peri. Also starring are Tony Beck, Michael Cuckson, Billy Miller and Naomi Paxton.

The steamboat Lankester is sailing from Madagascar to New Orleans when it is caught in a storm - but Captain Callany is not to concerned as he has sailed this route many times before.

(Gary Hopkins)
The Doctor, who is also aboard with his companion Peri for a relaxing cruise, is also not concerned about the storm as long as the TARDIS is kept safe in the hold. That is until a murderer starts killing the crew and The Doctor is accused, by the Captain, of carrying out the deaths and is locked up to await a Court Martial even though he is not a member of the crew - yet!!

There is though more than just one mystery aboard - what is the mysterious illness that has befallen Amy and why does she need such an unusual wheelchair?

As usual it is up to The Doctor and Peri to uncover the connection between the two events and to prevent a catastrophe which could result the poisoning of Amy and Peri, the sinking of the Lankester, when she apparently runs aground, and the loss of the TARDIS to the bottom of the ocean.

Peri

Peri

Can the revelation of Amy’s dark secret save Peri from drowning, when the ship starts to sink, and prevent the loss of the TARDIS? For Amy is a mermaid and her species may be responsible for the deaths and the sinking of the ship but they are not the real enemy.

Peri then finds herself on board the sinking vessel without The Doctor and with Amy dying could she be too late to escape from following the Lankester to the seabed and where have The Doctor and the TARDIS gone?

It is up to The Doctor and the mermen to save Peri and return Amy and her baby to her species - but first he has to locate his TARDIS, so he can return to the Lankester, and then convince Chief Mate De Requin to release his prisoners - all before the Lankester sinks to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean…

On the Back Cover:

There's a ship out there, on the ocean.

She's called Lankester and, every year, she sails from Madagascar to New Orleans and back again. Every year. Without exception. Regular as clockwork.

Her schedule is never behind. Her cargo is always fresh.

This trip, she has passengers. The passengers have baggage.

And the baggage might just be enough to sink her...
