Notes

This is the ninth story of Season Thirty Seven (New Series 11). It was written by Ed Hime and directed by Jamie Childs.

The Doctor claims to have had seven grandmothers, including Granny Five who told her about the Solitract, and claimed that Granny Two was a secret agent for the Zygons.

When Graham O'Brien meets Grace he tells her that since her death he has visited an alien world (see "The Ghost Monument") and has met Rosa Parks (see "Rosa").

Grace tells Graham that she remembers being killed by a creature (see "The Woman Who Fell to Earth").

Graham admits to carrying sandwiches every time he leaves the TARDIS, after learning travelling in the TARDIS means that they do not stop for food often.

Ryan Sinclair is heard to finally call Graham ‘granddad’ (see "The Woman Who Fell to Earth" and "The Ghost Monument").

During this story Yasmin Khan is heard making the suggestion to The Doctor of 'reversing the polarity' - a recurring phrase first used by the Third Doctor.

This is a story where there is no real enemy. The Solitract proved to simply be lonely and missing the universe and never meant anyone any harm. It could however be argued that Ribbons serves as a secondary villain.

The Seventh Doctor previously encountered a conscious aspect of an existence from the pre-universe who was banished as part of the creation of reality because they were incompatible with reality (see the Virgin Books' The New Adventures novel "Christmas on a Rational Planet" written by Lawrence Miles.

The Tenth Doctor previously encountered creatures which ate away flesh in a matter of seconds in the 2008 story "Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead".

A tall white, cloak-wearing monster with a mole-like head, tubular snout and long sharp fingers was originally going to appear in this story but was cut for time. This monster was played by Paul Sturgess.

At the beginning of this story The Doctor is seen verifying their relative location and date by taste (see "The Christmas Invasion").

Graham finds sweet wrappers as a sign someone has been around, something the Twelfth Doctor previously thought of as a sign in the 2017 story "The Eaters of Light".

All the scenes within the Solitract plane were flipped around to depict the reversed image seen in a mirror. This not only applied to the set, but also to the actors: eagle-eyed viewers could make out such details as the Slayer logo on Erik's shirt being backwards, and the parting in The Doctor's hair being on the opposite side.

The Eighth Doctor previously came across a mirror that led to an alternate dimension in the comic strip story "The Silvering" that was published in 2016, whilst the Tenth Doctor encountered two different portals that were disguised as mirrors in the 2006 story "The Girl in the Fireplace" and the BBC novel "Martha in the Mirror" written by Justin Richards.

In the Divergent Universe, the Eighth Doctor frequently transgressed an Interzone to arrive at different sections of the crucible planet on which he was trapped (see the Big Finish Productions audio stories "The Creed of the Kromon", "Faith Stealer", "The Last" and "Caerdroia").

Quote of the Story

'You want the whole universe. Someone who has seen it all, and that's me. I've lived longer, seen more, loved more, and lost more. I can share it all with you, anything you want to know about what you never had. Cause he's an idiot with a daughter who needs him. So let him go, and I will give you everything.'
