Regeneration |
|
The
Doctor has just regenerated to save his life after saving
Rose from the effects of the Time Energy she has consumed.
As The Doctor sets the TARDIS
in flight towards the planet Barcelona he begins
to check out his new body’s attributes: a slight
weakness in the right wrist, sideburns, bad skin, and
a mole between his shoulder blades.
He asks Rose for her opinion
but Rose is stunned by his transformation into a slightly
younger man. Confused she demands that he sends The Doctor
back, convinced that the person in front of her is an
impostor.
To prove that he really
is still The Doctor he takes her hand and reminds her
of the first word he spoke to her, in a cellar, surrounded
by malevolent shop-window dummies: was "Run".

Rose is still shaken buy
his transformation but is starting to accept that "her"
Doctor has changed. But just as it seems that he’s
starting to win her over, he convulses and coughs out
a cloud of Time Energy. Worried, Rose asks The Doctor
to go back and fetch Captain Jack to help, but The Doctor
insists that Jack is busy rebuilding the Earth and so
it is only the two of them now.
The Doctor's instability
gets worse with a burst of manic energy, The Doctor begins
to push the TARDIS to go even faster, and in a moment
of lucidity, he tells Rose that the regeneration is going
wrong.
As the
TARDIS cloister bell begins to toll The Doctor gleefully
tells Rose that they’re about to crash-land on
Earth - on Christmas Eve...

'What
do I look like? No! No! No! No! No! No! No! Don't
tell
me. Let's see. Two legs, two arms, two hands. A slight
weakness in the dorsal tendon. Hair. I'm not bald.
Oooh
big hair. Sideburns. I've got sideburns. Um really bad
skin. A little bit thinner. That's weird. Give me
time
I'll get use to it. I have got a mole. I can feel it.
Between the shoulder blades is a mole. That's all
right.
Love the mole. Go on tell me. What do you think?'
