The BBC has confirmed that actress Billie Piper is due to return to Doctor Who.

It has been announced that she will star in three episodes reprising her role as The Doctor's companion, Rose Tyler. This will mean that The Doctor will have three assistants in Season 30 (New Series 4) of the latest series - Donna Noble, played by Catherine Tate, and Martha Jones, played by Freema Agyeman. Season 30 (New Series 4) is due to begin in March/April 2008 and will run for 13 episodes.

Billie Piper left the show at the end of Season 28 (New Series 2), when her character Rose was transported into a parallel universe in the two part season finale "Army of Ghosts/Doomsday".

The return of Rose Tyler to the show is good news for Doctor Who fans as she had been a huge hit and this was reflected in Billie Piper winning a number of awards for her performances - including being named the most popular actress at the National Television Awards two years running in 2005 and 2006.
