Could Doctor Who be Coming Back?

Could Doctor Who be back next year? That's what various news broadcasts and radio announcements would leave you to believe.

Whotopia has been monitoring the situation and even though it is our policy not to report anything that is rumoured but as this news item is of great importance to a lot of Doctor Who fans and viewers it is felt that we should at least report the facts as we see it.

It would appear that the rumours started after an interview with Simon Mayo of Radio Five Live that BBC1 chief Lorraine Heggessey stated that:
"Doctor Who was a fantastic series and I think we should be looking at ways to reinvent it." It is understood that she went on to say that "Discussions are going on at the moment, but they are in the very early stages. There is an awful lot to sort out, including copyright and so on, but, yes, it could be coming back. And tea-time on Saturdays would seem an appropriate place."
Not wanting to raise your hopes but we have all heard similar things before. However, this does seem to be one of the more hopeful discussions about the show's future since its cancellation in 1989. At last it seems that those high-up at the BBC are indeed interested.

One thing that has been noted is the positive comments that Outpost Gallifrey are reporting. Not wanting to be to optimistic we at Whotopia hope they are correct and that the good Doctor will be returning to out Saturday tea-time television screens soon.

It will be interesting to see if it leads to even more positive news about the shows future. We will of course bring you more details as and when we get it.
