Jack Watling Passes Away |

Jack Watling as Professor
Travers |
|
It
has been sadly reported that another much-loved member of the Doctor Who family,
actor Jack Watling, passed away on Tuesday 22nd May 2001 following
a short battle against cancer. He was aged 78.
Jack
Watling, father of actress Deborah Watling (who played companion Victoria
Waterfield), was a well respected Doctor Who guest actor
who portrayed the character of scientist and explorer Professor Travers
in the
classic Second Doctor Yeti stories "The
Abominable Snowmen" and "The
Web of Fear". He is however more famous for his long-serving acting career
in British film and television. He was a well admired actor who was
a mainstay of British
television throughout the fifties, sixties
and early seventies. He starred with many countless classic actors
and directors, including Orson Welles and Alfred
Hitchcock.
It well known that Jack Watling enjoyed his time
on Doctor
Who and was more than happy to recreate the role of Professor Travers
and face the Yeti once more in the 1995 fan video drama Downtime alongside
his
daughter.
The team behind Whotopia would like to send our condolences
to Deborah and her family. Our thoughts
are with you all.
Rest
in peace Jack. |
