Terror of the Zygons |
|
BBC Music and
composer Mark Ayres has announced the release of an extensive range of Doctor
Who music scores to be released on CD. February saw the first release to the
range - Terror
of the Zygons and The
Seeds of Doom (which were composed by
Geoffrey Burgon). Running at over 78 minutes, this first release is now
available to buy. Future releases will contain scores by a variety of other
composers, including Ayres himself.
Alongside these
releases several other volumes, which were originally planned for release in
March, are being put together. However, this additional range has been extended
and will now comprise 3 volumes. All three CD's will showcase the programme's
long relationship with the BBC's Radiophonic Workshop.

Volume 1: The Early Years |
|
The
first volume is titled "The Early Years" and includes music from several of the shows early
stories in the 1960's including the original version of the theme music used in
the series "Pilot Episode", "The
Daleks" and extensive selections from "The
Wheel in Space" and "The
War Games". The second volume that has been released
is titled "New Beginnings" and contains music from the 1970's including a
lengthy section used in the "The
Sea Devils", the so-called 'Delaware' version
of the theme music (composed in 1972) plus a selection of sound effects
including material from "The
Brain of Morbius" and "The
Ark in Space".
Both of these volumes were released on 29th
May.

Volume 2: New Beginnings |
|
The
third volume will contain stories from the
1980's including "The
Leisure Hive".
Due to this range being expanded the release
date has not been announced for this third
volume.
Alongside these projects, Ayres is also working on a CD
compilation, provisionally titled 'Who is The Doctor', of Doctor Who spin
off songs released over the years like Jon
Pertwee's "Who is The Doctor",
Frazer Hines' "Who's Doctor Who?" and Roberta Tovey's "Who's Who".
