History: Although most of its history is unknown, Prisoner Zero was nevertheless clearly a highly dangerous and arrogant being, leaving at least eight people in comas simply so that it could draw on their minds in case it needed to use them as disguises, and perfectly willing to let an entire planet die with it rather than allowing itself to simply be taken away and executed when faced with a situation where death was certain.

In its natural state, Prisoner Zero was an inter-dimensional multi-form resembling a massive snake-like creature, regularly appearing as though it was attached to a ceiling in its natural state, leaving its full appearance a mystery as its ‘tail’ was never depicted.

Although capable of shifting its natural appearance into smaller particles so that it could retreat down drains and through grates, Prisoner Zero’s main power was its ability to form psychic links to other beings - although it took several months to establish this kind of link - and then use their dreams to form the basis of a new appearance for itself. With this disguise, it could walk among the local population of whatever planet it was on without being detected, although this method of disguise had its flaws (The most obvious being that sometimes its ‘donors’ - the people it was using as hosts - could dream about multiple creatures, such as a man dreaming that he was walking a dog or a woman dreaming about spending time with her children, with the result that Prisoner Zero could sometimes use the wrong voice to speak out of one of its new mouths).

At some point, Prisoner Zero was captured by a race known as the Atraxi - their natural state is unknown, although their spaceships resembled giant eyes surrounded by crystal rings -, and locked away in a high-security prison until it managed to escape to the small English village of Leadworth through a crack in reality. Although the newly-regenerated Eleventh Doctor attempted to close the crack, he was forced to depart when the damaged TARDIS threatened to explode, his subsequent attempted short hop into the future taking him forward in time by twelve years rather than the five minutes he’d been intending.

During the twelve years that The Doctor spent ‘travelling’, Prisoner Zero was able to conceal itself in a room in the house belonging to Amelia Pond and her Aunt Sharon, preventing anyone else noticing the room by using a perception filter to stop them noticing it even existed. Under unspecified circumstances, it was also able to form mental links to eight people around Leadworth, leaving its eight subjects in comas so that it could use their appearances to wander around the city (Although its disguises were occasionally flawed, such as when it posed as a man walking his dog and had the man growl and bark while the dog just stared).

The Atraxi eventually tracked Prisoner Zero to Earth when The Doctor reappeared, the Atraxi having been homing in on his ship to track the disguised Prisoner Zero, subsequently setting up a force field around Earth with the intention of incinerating the planet in order to destroy Prisoner Zero if it didn’t surrender itself. Aided by the now-grown-up Amy Pond and her boyfriend Rory Williams - a nurse at the hospital where Patient Zero’s victims were located who had noticed it wandering around in its disguises -, along with another young man called Jeff, The Doctor was able to write an elaborate computer virus on Rory’s mobile phone and transmit it across the world. With the virus resetting all the counters in the world to ‘Zero’, the Atraxi were able to trace the source of the virus back to the phone, the phone also containing photos that Rory had taken of Prisoner Zero’s disguises.

Although Prisoner Zero tried to escape by activating a long-dormant potential link it had created with Amy - disguising itself as The Doctor and a young Amy, apparently due to her continued dreams that the ‘Raggedy Doctor’ would come for her -, The Doctor was able to outwit it once again. Taking advantage of Prisoner Zero’s link to Amy, The Doctor was able to link himself to Amy’s mind and divert her thoughts away from her dreams of him and her younger self to focus instead on the moment when she had witnessed Prisoner Zero’s natural form in the concealed room. Despite Prisoner Zero’s attempt to remain in its current shape, The Doctor’s actions resulted in it transforming into “a perfect impersonation of [itself]”, allowing the Atraxi to detect Prisoner Zero and take it away for execution (Although The Doctor subsequently called the Atraxi back to warn them that attempting to destroy a Level Five planet was a clear violation of Article 57 of the Shadow Proclamation, challenging them to scan Earth’s history and confirm that it was defended).
